Until fairly recently any person who expressed concern about the degradation of the environment raised skeptical eyebrows. Those days are over, and it seems we all recognize our role in stopping and perhaps reversing the damage being done to our planet. According to the industry experts, to clean up the surroundings we are all going to have to make some adjustments. Each and every family ought to start making changes that are environmentally friendly and they must do this soon. Here are a few tips that can help you save energy, for the most part by making your kitchen more green.
Begin with changing the lights. Naturally you shouldn't confine this to merely the kitchen. You should upgrade your incandescent lights with energy-saver, compact fluorescent light bulbs. Although costing a little more in the beginning, these types of bulbs last as long as ten of the conventional type as well as using a lot less energy. Utilizing these longer-lasting lightbulbs has the actual benefit that many fewer lightbulbs make it into landfills. Along with different light bulbs, you should learn to leave the lights off when they are not needed. The kitchen lights specifically are often left on all day long, just because the family tends to spend a lot of time there. Of course this also happens in some other rooms, not merely the kitchen. Try keeping the lights off if you don't absolutely need them, and discover just how much electricity you can save.
As you can see, there are lots of little things that you can do to save energy, as well as save money, in the kitchen alone. Environmentally friendly living is not that hard. It's related to being functional, more often than not.

Instructions to make Braided Samosas:
- Take maida in a bowl, add some ajwain, salt, 3 tsp of oil and knead it into a stiff dough. Cover it with a damp cloth and keep it aside for about half an hour..
- Now for the filling, you can add any aloo filling of your choice. But for my filling, heat a pan. Add 2 tsp oil in it, add some mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chilli & chopped onion, chopped capsicum into it and fry it for some time. Now add the boiled, mashed potatoes and give it a mix and cook it for about 5 mins. Add half tsp chaat masala/ jaljeera powder, add some coriander leaves & give it a mix. Keep it aside..
- Now take the dough. Again Knead it for about 5 mins. Make 3 balls out of it. Roll it into a very thin chapati and cut into rectangular shape as in pic 1..
- Now make the designs as shown in the pics. Place the filling and seal it with water. Now roll it. It will form the shape as shown in image 3. Seal it properly. Make the remaining one in the same way..
- Now heat oil in a kadhai and fry them in a low flame to make them crispy. Serve hot with ketchup or as it is..
Beat the egg and water in a small bowl with a fork. Divide the potato mixture among the pastry squares. Brush the edges of the pastry squares with the egg mixture. And while traditional dough is the best, I don't always have the patience to make it. Sometime you just need a samosa and you need it fast!
