Every person knows that in order to truly be healthy you need to eat a nutritious and balanced diet and get a proper amount of exercise. Unfortunately, we do not always have the time or the energy that this type of lifestyle demands. Going to the gym isn't something people make time for when they get off from work. A hot, grease laden burger is usually our food of choice and not a leafy green salad (unless we are vegetarians). You should be thankful to learn that getting healthy doesn't always have to be super hard work. If you are diligent you'll get all of the activity and healthy food you need. Here are some simple ways to get healthful.

Take the stairs. Stroll up the stairs to where you live or work as an alternative to using the elevator. While this will be difficult to do if you live on or if your job is on a seriously high level floor in a skyscraper, taking the stairs to a home or office on, say, the fifth floor is completely do-able. Even if you do live or work on one of the top floors, you can still get out of the elevator early and climb up the stairs the rest of the way. So many people pick the elevator over hiking even a single flight of stairs. That one flight of stairs—when taken a few times a day—can be just the added boost that your system needs.

There are all kinds of things that you can do to get healthy and balanced. Not all of them necessitate fancy gym memberships or restrained diets. You can do little things every day to improve upon your health and lose weight. Make sensible choices every day is a great start. Looking to get in as much exercise as possible is another. Remember: being healthy isn’t just about losing weight. It’s about making your body as powerful as it can be.

Instructions to make Amma ka Daal (Mom's Lentil Recipe):

  1. Wash the lentils till the water runs clean. Add turmeric to the lentils and pressure cook on medium flame for at least 6 whistles. If you are using instant pot, pressure cook for at least 30 min, till the lentils are completely mush.Heat ghee (Substituting oil/ reducing the quantity will compromise the taste) in a Kadai/ frying pan, add cumin, cook till it is fragrant. Add garlic and green chilies. Make sure that the garlic doesn't burn..
  2. Add onions and fry till it is brown. This step is essential. Caramelizing the onions ensures the dish has a rich flavor. Add tomatoes and mix well. Cook covered on low flame for the mixture to amalgamate and become a mush like texture. Add coriander leaves when the tomatoes are fully cooked. I store at least half of this mixture in a jar and freeze for later use..
  3. Add the cooked dal to this mixture, with the required amount of water. Add salt to taste and cook on medium flat for 5-10 minutes. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve with Jeera rice/ plain basmati rice. Pure nirvana!.

Try this with brown lentils, Indian brown (whole red, Sabut Masoor) or other. This is my Mom's recipe and she has some kind of magic in her hands. She doesn't measure anything and everything comes out super delicious. So I had a couple of friends over for dinner and wanted to make something different but more of a winter type of dessert. My husband goes gajrela, and I am like made that a few times, so was kind of done with that.
