It was certainly not that long ago that hippies and tree huggers were the only ones to show concern concerning the well-being of the ecosystem. That has completely changed now, since we all apparently have an awareness that the planet is having difficulties, and we all have a part to play in fixing it. The experts are agreed that we are unable to change things for the better without everyone's active involvement. These kinds of modifications need to start occurring, and each individual family needs to become more environmentally friendly. The kitchen is a good place to begin saving energy by going more green.

Even though it may not taste as good, baking food in the microwave instead of in the oven will save you a packet of money. Perhaps the realization that an oven utilizes 75% more energy will stimulate you to use the microwave more. Countertop appliances can boil water or even steam vegetables more rapidly than your stove, and use a lot less electricity. You would be forgiven for thinking that an automatic dishwasher uses more energy than washing dishes the old-fashioned way, but you would be wrong. Particularly if you ensure that the dishwasher is full prior to starting a cycle. Conserve even more money by air drying and also cool drying your dishes rather than heat drying them.

From the above it should be clear that just in the kitchen, by itself, there are many little opportunities for saving energy and money. It is quite uncomplicated to live green, after all. A lot of it really is basically using common sense.

We hope you got insight from reading it, now let's go back to auntie's steamed zebra cake recipe. You can have auntie's steamed zebra cake using 7 ingredients and 10 steps. Here is how you cook it.

The ingredients needed to cook Auntie's steamed zebra cake:

  1. Take 5 of eggs.
  2. Get 200 g of self-rising flour.
  3. Prepare 150 g of sugar.
  4. Take 150 ml of coconut milk.
  5. Take 1 tsp of vanilla essence.
  6. Use 1/2 of salt.
  7. Prepare 2 tbsp of cocoa powder.

Instructions to make Auntie's steamed zebra cake:

  1. Put eggs, vanilla essence, salt and sugar in a mixing bowl, mix all ingredients using an electric mixer for 2 minutes, until all combined and form soft bubbles..
  2. Add in coconut milk and keep mixing..
  3. Add in flour slowly (batch by batch) whilst keep mixing the batter using electric mixer, until all well combined..
  4. Part the batter into two bowls (I am using 2 measuring jugs)..
  5. Add in the cocoa powder in one of the jug (or bowl) and mixed well. I shifted the chocolate powder before adding to mixing bowl, so it's easier to blend with the batter. By now you will have 2 batter chocolate and white..
  6. Using medium size baking tray (16x22cm) lightly buttered and dusted with flour already. Add in the batter from the middle of the mold/baking tray (alternating between white batter and chocolate batter). If you doing it correctly your batter will look like a bullseye shooting target..
  7. Prepare the steamer (I am using a wok), wrap the lid of the steamer with tea towel to prevent water dropping to the cake..
  8. Wait until water is bubbling, put the cake tray/mold to the steamer, cover and cook for 30 mins. Cook on high heat if using steamer, cook on medium heat if using a wok like me, as the cake tray placed directly to the water when using a wok (you don't want to use high heat with this method as water might go into the cake)..
  9. Do a test with a skewer. If stick come out clean, your cake is ready to be served. Make sure you put enough water in the steamer, your cake will be a fail if water runs out in the middle of steaming (assumed you didn't realise, it happened to me once). Keeping a consistent heat and steam is the key of success for this cake..
  10. Served your steam zebra cake warm with hot drinks. I am drinking my new favourite tea (chai masala tea). Recipe is here: https://cookpad.com/uk/recipes/12868381-masala-chai-tea?invite_token=2nY8nY99KkTVrcYVHchPv9TB&shared_at=1592369002.
